A Rainy Day

Well I finally had the energy to get up and do some photography! That was until I looked out the window.

A day of rain showers on the cards for the last day of January, January the slow month but this year it has flown by. I’m already leaving work with the sunlight still creeping over the horizon and by the time I return to work on Monday the sun would have not set and by the end of the week it will be setting some 10 minutes after I have left.

This is great news for me as I will be able to do some photography after work.

Other than photography I am a big fan of Lego and I have many sets, mostly based on the Space theme. So I thought I may as well build some considering it’s a bit wet outside today. I was already half way through a build of the Lego Spaceman but still had that itchy camera feeling that I wanted to take some photos.

Then suddenly I had that lightbulb moment, to combine them. Lets build some Lego but at the same time lets do some photography.

I finished the build and then started planning in my head how I would take a photo. One of the walls in my office is painted black, I knew this was going to be the background so I set up around that. My TV is also on this wall so I thought about using that too.

My first thought was to use just the black wall but it just looked like a space man with a black background, I started looking for images to use as a background that I could place on my TV. I switched on my MacBook and started looking for High Quality images of planet earth. I found one and streamed it from the MacBook to my TV and then started setting up the spaceman on my table.

I closed my blinds and started firing the camera away. The first few issues were the space man was too low, my room is a decent size but I had to use a lens around 35mm otherwise the focal length would be way pass the actual spaceman. I pulled some boxes out and placed the spaceman on top of them.

Perfect, the height now placed the space man in the centre of the TV, the earth was well placed so again I fired some shots away.

Did it take away the itch for doing some photography, nope but it did make the lego build a little more fun.

The Lego set is available on Amazon - https://amzn.to/3ZVmwyp

You can see how I set up for this shot with my reel on social media and here is the image -
