A page all about me!
Hi there! I’m Paul, an enthusiastic amateur photographer based in the picturesque landscape of Wales. I have developed a deep passion for Macro photography and I am eager to learn even more about the intricacies of this captivating photography. Living on the enchanting Holy Island and Anglesey, I find myself drawn to capturing the wonders of nature we have here. Surrounded by some beautiful land and seascapes too but I yet rarely visit this type of photography. Alongside my love for close-ups, I also delve into the world of wildlife photography, with a particular fascination for birds. My heart set on capturing the majestic UK birds of prey, such as Buzzards, Red Kites, Kestrels, and the elusive (to me) Owls.
I've been honing my photography skills for about 15 years now, predominantly sticking to Auto-mode for convenience. Recently, however, I’ve decided to embrace the challenge and excitement of moving to manual mode. I began my photographic journey with an Olympus E510 before switching over to a Canon EOS 600D, where I embarked on my adventure in Macro photography, albeit without a dedicated lens at that time. I later treated myself to a Canon 6D paired with a Canon EF 100mm Macro lens, excitingly upgrading to the EF 100mm f2.8L lens. In 2019, I took a leap into the mirrorless world with the Canon EOS R, combining it with an RF35mm Macro lens, before further enhancing my setup with the RF 100mm 2.8L Macro lens. My most recent upgrade is the fabulous Canon R5 Mark II, specifically aimed at kicking my bird photography up a notch. If you're curious about the gear I use, feel free to check out the ‘My Gear’ page for more details!
I’m far from the best photographer around, far from the best amateur too but what you will get is genuine images, no AI images on here. To show you how great my photography is and how good I am with a camera. This stunning image of me to the right was taken by accident, in fact I was actually stood on a beach for 10 or so minutes thinking I was talking to my Facebook page fans, only to realise when I got home I had instead taken 1000’s of selfies. So not only do I have photography on here you will also have a laugh!.
To visit my social media pages then use the links in my footer on any page.
Facebook is my main one, slowly building a following on there with over 2.5K followers from around the world. Mostly Portugal & Japan buy many from Europe on there too. Less than 50 followers from my home area.
Instagram, I use but not as much but have started adding to it again.
Bluesky, my least amount of followers but the most amount of interaction especially on my bird photography.
I am on Twitter but I don’t post there anymore and tend to only use it to see what others are up too.
Getting Into Macro photography was really down to seeing the awesome work of Nada Bagim, whose wonderland series is quite simply the most beautiful Macro photography I have ever seen.

The effort he goes to, to create these images really pays off. Lightyears ahead of me and well worth all the publications he has been featured in as well as any award recieved.
As much as I love Macro photography you will notice one creature I don’t often photograph, the spider. I do have a fear of them and I do hope that macro photography will help me get over this fear. For now though my long suffering girlfriend will rescue the kids and myself each time one enters our house.
I often look towards Richard Bernabe for inspiration too. A photographer who travels about and produces some stunning wildlife and landscape images. Richard also has a podcast which is always worth a listen. Also a chance to find other photographers out there who you may not of heard of, as he has others join him on the podcast.
